What boiler install costs in Toms River, NJ

$11,600 to $17,150

The middle half of the 124 boiler replacements we completed across New Hampshire and New Jersey, as of October 2026. A quarter came in under $11,600 and a quarter ran above $17,150.

That is our own completed work across New Hampshire and New Jersey, not a national average and not a teaser price. We price the same way in every town we cover, so this is the range to plan around in Toms River, NJ too. Where we have done enough of a particular job in a single town to publish that town's own number, we do, and we say so. Here the honest answer is the wider sample. It excludes sales tax, your quote is fixed before any work starts, and what moves it is covered below.

Boiler Replacement in Toms River: what to expect

Toms River is one township that runs from the barrier island to well inland, and that changes this job more than most people expect. The sections below cover what the work involves, what sets your price, and the local conditions we plan around here specifically. The range above is our own completed work across New Hampshire and New Jersey rather than a Toms River-only figure, because we price the same way everywhere we go.

What Toms River houses are actually like

Toms River stretches from the barrier island across the bay and a long way inland, and the right specification is not the same at both ends. Near the water, salt-laden air attacks outdoor equipment and corrosion protection is worth paying for. Several miles inland it is largely unnecessary and you should not be paying for it.

The flood map splits the township the same way. In the eastern and waterfront sections, mechanical equipment is expected to sit at or above the base flood elevation and a replacement is when that gets reviewed. Inland, it is a straightforward job. A quote that specifies the same package regardless of where in Toms River you live was written without thinking about it.

Much of the housing sits on a slab or a shallow crawl, which puts duct runs in the attic, a space that can exceed 130 degrees in August.

Steam and hot water are not the same job

If your radiators hiss and have a vent on the side, you are on steam. Steam boilers are sized to the connected radiation - the actual square footage of all your radiators - not to a heat loss calculation. Get that wrong in either direction and the system either never satisfies or short-cycles and hammers. It is the one place in heating where the old method is still the right method.

Hot water systems are sized to heat loss like anything else, and there the old nameplate is usually far too big.

Near-boiler piping decides whether you get what you paid for

The boiler is a box. The piping around it is the system. On steam, the header has to be piped the way the manufacturer draws it or the boiler carries water over into the mains and you get wet steam, banging and early failure. On hot water, primary-secondary piping and correctly sized circulators are what let a condensing boiler actually condense instead of running hot and returning hot, which throws away the efficiency you paid for.

This is the hardest part of a quote to compare, because it is invisible once the jacket is on. When one number comes in far below the others, this is usually what is missing.

What happens to your hot water

If the old boiler also made your domestic hot water through a tankless coil, replacing it forces a decision. An indirect tank gives excellent recovery and efficiency but needs floor space. A combi makes heat and hot water in one wall-hung box, which suits tight mechanical rooms but limits simultaneous demand. A standalone water heater keeps the two independent, so a boiler fault does not also mean cold showers. The difference between them is thousands of dollars, and a quote that does not address it is not finished.

What moves the price

  • Steam or hot water. Steam is slower work, the piping is heavier and the sizing method is different.
  • Condensing or conventional. Only worth it if your radiation can run cool enough to condense. High-temperature cast iron often cannot, and we will say so.
  • Hot water strategy. Indirect tank, combi or standalone heater.
  • Zone count and controls. Circulators, zone valves and whether the existing zoning is worth keeping.
  • Venting and chimney. Moving to sidewall venting can orphan a water heater left on the flue.

Rebates and financing in New Jersey

Most of this area is served by New Jersey Natural Gas and JCP&L. Both run programmes worth checking before you buy: NJNG SaveGreen rebates and financing, JCP&L financing through NEIF, and the broader zero percent utility financing guide. The federal 25C credit expired at the end of 2025; we cover what that changed in this article.

How replacement day runs

One to two days, longer on a large multi-zone system. We drain down, remove the old boiler, set the new one, build the near-boiler piping to the manufacturer drawing, run venting and condensate, wire the controls, then refill, purge and balance each zone. We commission with a combustion analyser and leave you the readings and the permit close-out.

We stand by our word. Always.

When you invite us into your home, we take that responsibility seriously. Every project - big or small, is handled with care, respect, and craftsmanship you can feel. Our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee means every job is done right — or we make it right, fast.
