This is one of four utility program guides in our series on 0% utility financing for HVAC in New Jersey. If Elizabethtown Gas is your gas utility, this one is yours.

Elizabethtown Gas serves roughly 300,000 customers across central and northwestern New Jersey - Union and Middlesex counties, and parts of Morris, Sussex, Warren and Hunterdon.
If you are in Elizabeth, Westfield, Summit, Cranford, Union, Hackettstown, Washington, or the surrounding towns, check your gas bill. Elizabethtown Gas territory interleaves with PSE&G and NJNG territory in ways that are not intuitive from a map, and neighboring towns can have different gas utilities.
Your electric utility is separate - usually JCP&L or PSE&G - and has its own program.
Rebates: up to $1,750 across heating, cooling and water heating equipment.
Financing: up to $25,000 at 0% APR through the On-Bill Repayment Program, repaid on your monthly gas bill.
Income-qualified bonus: up to $300 in additional rebates for customers meeting the current income guidelines.
Let me be straight about the first number. At up to $1,750, the Elizabethtown rebate is smaller than what an NJNG customer can get - their ceiling is $3,650 across HVAC and water heating. Same state, same statewide framework, different utility, different number.
I mention it because you will notice, and because if you have a friend two towns over who got a bigger check, that is why. It is not something you did wrong and it is not something a contractor can change. Your address determines your program.
Here is the part I would actually focus on.
A $1,750 rebate is real money. But run the arithmetic on the financing.

The 0% financing is worth roughly six times the $1,750 rebate. It is also the part almost nobody talks about, because "rebate" is a word people search for and "on-bill repayment" is not.

That 120-day window is the single most common way homeowners lose this money. It runs from the purchase date, not from whenever the paperwork surfaces. Contractors who file these routinely do not miss it. We file ours as part of the job.
As with the other New Jersey programs, expect new construction to be excluded and expect scrutiny of replacements where the existing equipment was already high-efficiency. These programs pay for efficiency gains, and a small gain earns a small rebate or none.
Verify the specific model against the AHRI certified ratings before purchase. Two units that look equivalent on a spec sheet can land on opposite sides of a threshold.
Up to $300 in bonus rebates is available to customers meeting the published income guidelines, and the guidelines are more generous than most people assume. They are household-size adjusted and they are not a poverty threshold.
It takes about two minutes to check, and people who assume they will not qualify frequently do. Ask when you apply, or ask us and we will look at the current table with you.
There are also separate income-eligible programs in New Jersey - the Comfort Partners program provides efficiency services at no cost to qualifying households, and the state has confirmed those services continue through the coming program transition. If money is genuinely tight, ask about that path specifically rather than the rebate path.
Confirm Elizabethtown Gas is your gas utility. Check the bill, not the map.
Get an estimate from a participating contractor, and confirm they are actually enrolled in the Elizabethtown program.
Verify the specific equipment model qualifies against the current rebate schedule before you buy.
Set up on-bill repayment before the job is finished if you intend to finance. This is part of the project, not something to sort out afterward.
Submit the rebate application within 120 days of the purchase date, with the paid invoice.
Ask about the income-qualified bonus while you are applying.
Current program terms across the New Jersey utilities generally run through June 30, 2027. In July 2026 the state Board of Public Utilities approved a transition plan for the year beginning July 2027 that reduces utility energy efficiency program spending by about 28% and reorients incentives toward smart, grid-connected equipment.
That is not a reason to replace working equipment. It is a reason to know where you stand if your system is near the end of its life and you were already weighing the timing.
Then you have two programs available, for different equipment. A gas furnace or boiler goes through Elizabethtown. A heat pump generally goes through your electric utility. Separate applications, and potentially both.
No. The federal 25C credit expired at the end of 2025. Here is what that changed, and it is a bigger deal than most homeowners realise.
The obligation is tied to the account and is typically settled at closing. Ask before you sign if a move is on the horizon.
Not required for straight equipment rebates. Worth considering if you are looking at multiple measures, because whole-home paths can be worth more than equipment rebates alone.
