What furnace install costs in Milford, NH

$7,200 to $9,900

The middle half of the 17 furnace replacements we completed in Milford, as of October 2026. A quarter came in under $7,200 and a quarter ran above $9,900.

That is our own job history in Milford, NH, not a national average and not a teaser price. It excludes sales tax. We publish it because you cannot plan around "call for pricing," and because a number we have to stand behind keeps us honest. Your quote is fixed before any work starts, and what moves it is covered below.

Milford is propane country, and that shapes the decision

Across the Milford jobs where we recorded a fuel, propane comes up more often than either oil or natural gas. That is a straightforward consequence of geography: gas mains reach parts of the town and not others, and outside that footprint propane has long been the default.

It matters because the right answer to "my furnace is dying" depends entirely on which of those three you are on, and a contractor who quotes you a replacement without establishing it is guessing.

  • On propane. A high-efficiency condensing furnace earns its premium faster on propane than on natural gas, because the fuel costs more per unit of heat. This is also the case where pairing with a cold-climate heat pump makes the strongest financial argument in our whole service area.
  • On oil. If a gas main runs past your house, replacement is the moment to decide about converting. Doing it later means paying for the same labour twice.
  • On natural gas. You are in the simplest and usually cheapest case.

Heat loss, not the old nameplate

Milford has a wide mix of housing, from in-town older stock to newer builds on larger lots. What they have in common is that the furnace being removed is usually oversized, often by a lot. Houses get insulation, windows and roofs over the decades and the heating load falls; the replacement furnace rarely follows it down.

An oversized furnace short-cycles. It heats the space around the thermostat quickly, shuts off, and leaves the far end of the house behind, which is why the complaint is nearly always one cold room rather than a cold house. We run a room-by-room heat loss calculation before quoting, and in most Milford houses the right furnace is smaller than the one coming out.

Wells, power and the thing people forget

Plenty of Milford homes are on a private well. If you are on a well and you lose power, you lose water as well as heat, and the furnace is useless without electricity regardless of what fuel it burns. Winter storms here take lines down.

We are not going to pretend a furnace quote is a generator quote. But if you are already having us out and you are on a well, it is worth asking about standby generator installation at the same visit rather than discovering the gap in February.

What moves the price

  • Efficiency. On propane the payback on a condensing unit is faster, so the maths often favours the better equipment here.
  • Venting. Going condensing means PVC out a sidewall and often relining the chimney for a water heater left on it.
  • Ductwork. Undersized returns are the most common fault we find, and the cheapest to put right.
  • Propane supply. Tank siting, regulator and line sizing have to suit the new appliance.
  • Combustion air. Required by code, and frequently inadequate on the installation being removed.

Rebates, and what changed for 2026

The federal 25C tax credit expired at the end of 2025, so there is no federal credit on a 2026 furnace. New Hampshire incentives run through NHSaves, and the amounts move between programme years. We confirm what is actually live on the day we quote rather than printing a number that goes stale.

How replacement day runs

A single working day in most cases. We protect the route in, remove the old unit, set and level the new one, make the fuel connection, run the venting, wire the control and start up. Before anyone leaves we check manifold pressure, temperature rise and duct static pressure, and you get the readings along with the permit close-out.

We stand by our word. Always.

When you invite us into your home, we take that responsibility seriously. Every project - big or small, is handled with care, respect, and craftsmanship you can feel. Our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee means every job is done right — or we make it right, fast.
