$11,600 to $17,150
The middle half of the 124 boiler replacements we completed across New Hampshire and New Jersey, as of October 2026. A quarter came in under $11,600 and a quarter ran above $17,150.
That is our own completed work across New Hampshire and New Jersey, not a national average and not a teaser price. We price the same way in every town we cover, so this is the range to plan around in Lakewood, NJ too. Where we have done enough of a particular job in a single town to publish that town's own number, we do, and we say so. Here the honest answer is the wider sample. It excludes sales tax, your quote is fixed before any work starts, and what moves it is covered below.
Lakewood is households larger than the state average, which changes the sizing, and that changes this job more than most people expect. The sections below cover what the work involves, what sets your price, and the local conditions we plan around here specifically. The range above is our own completed work across New Hampshire and New Jersey rather than a Lakewood-only figure, because we price the same way everywhere we go.
Lakewood has among the largest average household sizes in New Jersey, and that should drive the whole specification. Demand for hot water, for heating recovery and for simultaneous capacity follows people and routines, not floor area. A house with two occupants and a house with seven are completely different problems and are routinely sold the same equipment.
It shows in our own records: this is one of the few towns we serve where tankless mentions outnumber hydronic ones, which is what you would expect where simultaneous hot water demand is the binding constraint. If your household regularly runs out of hot water or cannot keep up on the coldest mornings, that is a sizing failure rather than a worn-out appliance, and replacing like-for-like buys the same complaint with a newer badge.
If your radiators hiss and have a vent on the side, you are on steam. Steam boilers are sized to the connected radiation - the actual square footage of all your radiators - not to a heat loss calculation. Get that wrong in either direction and the system either never satisfies or short-cycles and hammers. It is the one place in heating where the old method is still the right method.
Hot water systems are sized to heat loss like anything else, and there the old nameplate is usually far too big.
The boiler is a box. The piping around it is the system. On steam, the header has to be piped the way the manufacturer draws it or the boiler carries water over into the mains and you get wet steam, banging and early failure. On hot water, primary-secondary piping and correctly sized circulators are what let a condensing boiler actually condense instead of running hot and returning hot, which throws away the efficiency you paid for.
This is the hardest part of a quote to compare, because it is invisible once the jacket is on. When one number comes in far below the others, this is usually what is missing.
If the old boiler also made your domestic hot water through a tankless coil, replacing it forces a decision. An indirect tank gives excellent recovery and efficiency but needs floor space. A combi makes heat and hot water in one wall-hung box, which suits tight mechanical rooms but limits simultaneous demand. A standalone water heater keeps the two independent, so a boiler fault does not also mean cold showers. The difference between them is thousands of dollars, and a quote that does not address it is not finished.
Most of this area is served by New Jersey Natural Gas and JCP&L. Both run programmes worth checking before you buy: NJNG SaveGreen rebates and financing, JCP&L financing through NEIF, and the broader zero percent utility financing guide. The federal 25C credit expired at the end of 2025; we cover what that changed in this article.
One to two days, longer on a large multi-zone system. We drain down, remove the old boiler, set the new one, build the near-boiler piping to the manufacturer drawing, run venting and condensate, wire the controls, then refill, purge and balance each zone. We commission with a combustion analyser and leave you the readings and the permit close-out.
When you invite us into your home, we take that responsibility seriously. Every project - big or small, is handled with care, respect, and craftsmanship you can feel. Our Lifetime Workmanship Guarantee means every job is done right — or we make it right, fast.

Every technician undergoes rigorous training and continuous skill upgrades.
