Historic homes on a tidal river
Red Bank is a historic town on the Navesink, full of late-1800s and early-1900s homes with real craftsmanship and the century-old systems, and the riverfront flood exposure, that come with them. Storms like Irene and Sandy have pushed the Navesink into riverfront neighborhoods and Marine Park. Owning here means caring for an old house and planning for the water, and both run through the work we do.
Heating and cooling a house that never had ducts
Red Bank's Victorians and early-1900s homes were built for coal, radiators, and open windows, not central air, so forcing modern ductwork through their plaster walls is invasive and expensive. Ductless mini-split heat pumps are the right answer: efficient heating and cooling delivered room by room, cold-climate performance that carries a Monmouth County winter, and no ducts torn through a historic house. We size to a real load calculation, because an oversized system leaves these humid-summer homes cool but clammy while an undersized one cannot hold the coldest nights, and we service older boilers and radiators or supplement them with heat pumps for lower bills and summer comfort. Homes close to the Navesink also sit in brackish, humid air, so we place and protect the outdoor unit accordingly.
Old-house electrical and plumbing
Knob-and-tube wiring and undersized panels cannot safely run central air, a heat pump, or an EV charger, so we upgrade to a modern 200 amp service and rewire, routed carefully to protect plaster and trim. Galvanized and cast-iron pipe corrodes and chokes off pressure, so we repipe in stages so the house stays livable.
Riverfront flooding
Low-lying and Navesink-adjacent homes need real water management: sump systems with battery or generator backup, mechanicals elevated where flood rules and good sense call for it, and check valves against tidal backup from the river. We build the combination the specific home and its flood zone call for, rather than a one-size answer.
Storm power and winter
Storm surge and nor'easters bring outages worth planning for, so a standby generator that keeps the heat, water, sump, and refrigerator running is a common install here, and we protect the pipes most likely to freeze in a cold snap before it arrives.
