What ac install costs in Manchester, NH

$8,550 to $15,600

The middle half of the 20 cooling installations we completed in Manchester, as of October 2026. A quarter came in under $8,550 and a quarter ran above $15,600.

That is our own job history in Manchester, NH, not a national average and not a teaser price. It excludes sales tax. We publish it because you cannot plan around "call for pricing," and because a number we have to stand behind keeps us honest. Your quote is fixed before any work starts, and what moves it is covered below.

Why this band is wide, and which end you are on

Our Manchester cooling band is far wider than our furnace band, and the reason is simple: in this city, installing AC means two very different projects.

If your house already has ducts that were sized to move cooling air, replacing or adding a condenser and coil sits at the lower end of the range. If your house has no ducts, or has gravity-era heating trunks that cannot carry the airflow cooling needs, the honest answer is usually a ductless system, and the price then depends on how many rooms you want conditioned. A single-zone unit for one bedroom and a six-zone system for a whole three-decker are both AC installations, and they are nowhere near each other in price.

Before we quote we work out which house you have. That conversation is what determines your number.

Mill-era houses and the ductwork problem

A lot of Manchester housing was heated by gravity or by radiators and had forced air added later. Those retrofit duct systems were sized for heating, where you can get away with lower airflow and higher temperature. Cooling needs more air moved through a bigger coil, and pushing it through undersized trunks and starved returns gives you a loud system, a coil that freezes, and warm upstairs rooms.

We measure static pressure before promising a ducted system will work. Sometimes the fix is one properly placed return and the ducted route becomes the right answer. Sometimes it is not, and we will tell you that rather than sell you a condenser that will disappoint you every August.

Cooling and heating are now one decision

A modern cold-climate heat pump is an air conditioner that also runs in reverse. If you are buying cooling anyway and your heating system is near the end of its life, pricing the two together almost always beats buying them separately two years apart. Same crew, same electrical, same refrigerant lines, one mobilisation.

That is why a good share of our Manchester cooling jobs get quoted alongside the heating system. We will show you both numbers rather than quoting only the box you asked about.

Sizing: bigger is not better

An oversized air conditioner cools the air quickly, satisfies the thermostat, and shuts off before it has pulled any humidity out. You get a house that is cold and clammy and a compressor that wears out short-cycling. We run a Manual J load calculation using your actual windows, insulation and orientation. In most Manchester houses that produces a smaller number than the system being replaced.

What moves the price

  • Ducted or ductless. The single biggest factor, and the reason for the spread.
  • Zones. On a ductless system, every indoor head adds equipment and labour.
  • Electrical. Older Manchester services sometimes have no room for a new circuit, and a panel upgrade becomes part of the job. We check the panel before quoting so it is not a surprise on install day.
  • Line set routing. Running refrigerant lines through a finished three-decker without tearing up plaster takes planning.
  • Condenser siting. Narrow lots and shared driveways limit where the outdoor unit can sit and still meet clearance and noise requirements.

Rebates, and what changed for 2026

The federal 25C credit expired at the end of 2025, so there is no federal credit on 2026 equipment. If you go the heat pump route, New Hampshire incentives run through NHSaves and are generally tied to the heating side rather than to cooling. Amounts move between programme years, so we confirm what is actually available when we quote.

How installation day runs

A straightforward ducted replacement is a day. Ductless multi-zone work runs two to three. We set the outdoor unit on a pad or on brackets, run and pressure-test the line set, pull a deep vacuum and verify it holds, then weigh in the charge to the manufacturer specification rather than guessing by pressure. Before we leave we measure the temperature split and the airflow and show you the numbers. A system that is in but not commissioned is not finished.
