Founded in 2008, Horizon Pharma (Horizon) is a biopharmaceutical company focused on improving patients’ lives by identifying, developing, acquiring and commercializing differentiated and accessible medicines that address unmet medical needs. The company markets 11 medicines through its rare disease, rheumatology and primary care business units. With five offices around the globe, Horizon employs more than 1,050 people. The Challenge

Horizon continues to grow and thrive through an aggressive business development strategy that includes product and company acquisitions as well as strategic alliances. While this approach brings business opportunities, acquisitions usher in new employees, merging principles and resulting in unforeseen change, putting even the most steadfast culture at risk. Horizon sought a tool that would:

  • Align and preserve its culture across offices worldwide
  • Enable recognition between all employees to ensure that everyone feels valued and significant
  • Engage and inspire managers and team members

The Solution

The company implemented HighGround’s employee engagement and real-time performance management platform and branded the program Horizon Inspired. Accessed via mobile or through the company’s Intranet, Horizon Inspired connects employees through real-time feedback.

The Results

Horizon Inspired has been a tool to help engage and invigorate team dynamics, improve communication across different geographic offices and motivate team members. To date, more than 4,000 recognitions have been given, primarily from managers to employees, showing an active and engaged management team.
