A Day at Breakthrough Urban Ministries: HighGround Gives Back

Tags: , , ,

Last week our HighGround team had the opportunity to spend time at the Breakthrough Urban Ministries Fresh Market food pantry. Breakthrough partners with Chicago’s East Garfield neighborhood to help eliminate its struggle against poverty and focus on positivity in the area. In addition to the neighborhood food pantry, it provides men’s and women’s shelters, an after school program, a preschool-age program, a mentor-based youth running club and much more.

A group of HighGround employees spent the morning at the Breakthrough’s Fresh Market helping stock the pantry, greeting customers, bagging groceries and sorting through food deliveries.

“Working with the Breakthrough team was a great opportunity to do something simple that made a bigger impact,” said Ross Wallace, HighGround Manager of Sales Development. “It brought us together as a team and also gave us a chance to help out Chicago’s less fortunate.”

Volunteerism is becoming an important ingredient to corporate employee engagement programs, especially in organizations with large Millennial populations. Workplace giving programs are also on the rise and according to America’s Charities, 60 percent of companies surveyed in their Snapshot 2015 report now offer year-round giving opportunities.

In our own rewards program at HighGround, we offer employees the opportunity to donate to the charity of their choice. We also provide a reward that allows employees to spend a half day volunteering with a fellow coworker. We’ll certainly continue our volunteer initiatives over the next year. Many thanks again to the Breakthrough team for letting us help out last week. To see some of what we did, check out the full album on HighGround’s Facebook page.
